G.I. Joe Slugger (1984) – A Classic Artillery Vehicle Worth Remembering!

Story by Mitchell Smith

Welcome to The Outpost. Today I’m checking out the 1984 G.I. Joe Slugger. A Classic Artillery Vehicle with a unique design, powerful armament, and a dedicated driver Thunder , the Slugger became a fan-favorite among kids and collectors alike. The G.I. Joe Slugger was modeled after real-world self-propelled guns, though it had a futuristic, toy-like appearance. Fun features included the cannon that can pivot up for air or long distance strike, the canopy hatch door that can be closed for protection, and the engine cover that can be opened to make repairs.

The vehicle was a staple in the earlier cartoons and was always one of my favorites. This would have been awesome to have as a kid but I never had one till I started collecting. Although I only remember Thunder in the cartoon as a background character he was really cool looking and had a really cool figure. Thunder did get a modern 25th style figure but the Slugger remains a vehicle made for the original line only.

Not sure a classified Slugger would be a hit but I would love to see a Classified Thunder. Who had a Slugger as a kid? Who is a Thunder fan? Make sure to check back next week for the next discussion at The Outpost.
